iPad models can be confusing, but the A-number on the back of the device is one of the fastest ways to identify the correct generation before booking a repair.

Use the A-number to find the right iPad

On the back of most iPads there is a model number beginning with the letter A, such as A2197. You can now search this number on our iPad repair page to find the matching iPad model without needing to know the exact generation name.

Example: searching A2197 will help identify the iPad 7th Gen (2019) on the repair page.

Common iPad repairs

When to repair rather than replace

iPads are often worth repairing when the main board is healthy, the device still powers on, and the issue is limited to the screen, battery or charging port. If the iPad is used for school, work or a child’s device, repair can be a cost-effective way to extend its life.
